"Dear Parent,
I am a life science teacher with many years experience with young learners. I have taught at a brick-and-mortar school for 18 years with high school students in grades 9-12. This was at a rural high-poverty school. I also had a lot of experience teaching students via an online platform, such as Zoom. I have an Indiana teaching license and over the years have taught Biology, AP Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, AP Environmental Science, Anatomy and Forensics. I also have been the sponsor of clubs and teams such as Envirothon and Science Olympiad.
What I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunity to connect with young learners and help them see that science is relevant to their daily lives. It is my strong belief that today's young people are most invested in their learning when they believe that it is something that they will find useful. In order to make science relevant, a teacher must be able to connect the topic to examples students can relate to. For me, this means that I develop a relationship with each student so I know their learning style and interests.
When I teach or tutor, I work to adapt my approach and materials to the learner I'm working with. Some students are more visual, some students need to hear reading read aloud, for instance. I recognize that every student is an individual and try to work within the unique learning style that they have. So in conclusion, if I am chosen to tutor your student, I will honor their individual learning style and help them to become the best learner that they can be!" less...
