"I am a math, writing and organizational skills tutor for students from kindergarten to college and was recently named a finalist in the SFGATE 2024 Best of the Bay for “Best Learning Center/Tutor.” I have worked as a Wyzant tutor since 2017 where I am IXL certified (2023 & 2024). In 2015, I graduated summa cum laude from the Dominican University of California, where I earned a BA in Liberal Studies/Teacher Education, a minor in mathematics and Honors. While at Dominican, I had ample classroom and one-on-one experience with students. I worked as an assistant teacher in six different elementary school classrooms throughout Marin County. In addition, I worked as one of the mathematics tutors at Dominican's learning center. In the fall of 2015 I lived in Portland where I was a tutor with Cornerstone Learning. From 2016 to 2020, I worked with Tutor Corps and Varsity Tutors in San Francisco. I have also worked as a math tutor at The Urban School of San Francisco (fall 2023). I have had experience tutoring numerous students from kindergarten up to high school in math (elementary, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry and functions/precalculus) as well as reading, writing, organizational skills and SSAT prep. I have a passion for working with students who struggle with learning differences. At the age of eight, I was diagnosed with ADD and throughout my years in education, I worked hard to gain the skills and strategies that would help me succeed and progress. As a tutor, I have a strong understanding of the needs of students. I am passionate about helping every individual go above and beyond, no matter what his or her learning style is. One of my most gratifying teaching experiences was tutoring a first grader who struggled with ADHD. He had been held back for two years in a row, but after a semester of working one-on-one with him, this student excelled and moved onto second grade at the end of the semester. In addition to tutoring, I am a choreographer of my own dance company: alyssaevemitchel.com." less...
