"I am John and I am a tutor who can assist you with both Math and Philosophy. I have a Bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley and I am currently teaching Middle School Math with 3 years of experience. I am finishing up my Single Subject teaching credential for Secondary Mathematics at Loyola Marymount University.

My undergraduate studies in Philosophy had an impact on me. Obtaining my degree in Philosophy shaped me in a way that I developed a skill of looking at everything systematically and analytically. The way that Philosophy shaped me transitioned well into my teaching career, particularly with Math.

A tutoring experience with me will be systematic. What do I mean by that? First it will be organized and focused. I will first explore with you that specific area where you need assist with. I believe that once we have worked on that area, we can move forward into other skills. For me, knowledge is context, and we build knowledge by establishing one area, then onto the next, and so on. In a tutoring session, we may be working at least one objective, depending on what we can accomplish. I have experience with my students where that area may be clarifying a concept, addressing a misconception, or improving problem-solving skills.

You probably need to know exactly what I can assist you with.

For Math, I have experience assisting in the areas of Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Geometry. As it is summer vacation, some of you may be looking for someone who can help you out retain the Math skills you have learned, for which I am available to assist.

For Philosophy, I have experience assisting in the areas of surveying Ancient, Hellenistic, Christian, Modern, and Chinese Philosophy - particularly in the area of understanding philosophical views, reconstructing philosophical views, and evaluating philosophical views. Some of you may be taking a Philosophy course this summer which you may need help on, for which I can assist you as well!
