"I'm Thao! I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with a minor focus on Computer Science. In university, my major taught me an important lesson with implications beyond the classroom which was, "learning how to learn". I believe a constant learning mindset is a cornerstone at all levels for students to be able to work through complex and confusing topics, problems or entire subjects. Students I tutor who perform the best during and after each session, are ones that constantly ask questions and think aloud. I use this approach during my tutoring sessions because it rewards the students with confidence and a sense of self accomplishment when they are able to come to a solution by themselves rather than just peering at the answer. I try to make sure there is a sense of direction when navigating through a math or physics problem and ask questions so that my students can steer the problem solving process in the right direction. Of course, I try my best to adapt my teaching method to best fit the individual and unique learning styles of each student.

I have a 1.5 years of tutoring experience in one on one and small groups of all age groups and skill levels, ranging from 3rd graders to first year college students. I specialize in math and physics from pre-algebra and basic physics, to college level calculus and physics. I typically do one on one sessions for students in SAT/ACT exam prep and high school math or physics. Most of my small group tutoring sessions are in elementary and middle school and these consist of 2-4 students; I try my best to accommodate each student's needs in these group sessions while maintaining productive working environment so that no student falls behind.
