"Hi, I'm Archie, and I've had a passion for math since I was a second grader. In my senior year of high school, I challenged myself by taking AP Calculus AB and BC simultaneously. That love for math led me to earn a B.A. in Mathematics (with a Computer Science minor) from the University of San Diego (USD) and later a Ph.D. in Mathematics from UCSD.

I've been tutoring since high school, helping students from local schools, universities across the U.S., and even in Australia. Currently, in the 2024-2025 school year, I’m teaching Precalculus at SCY High. My previous experience includes teaching Statistics, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB at SCY High, Precalculus at Torah High, and Prealgebra at AoPS Academy. I also taught Math Bridge (IM1-3) at Hamilton Education.
At the college level, I’ve served as an adjunct professor at both San Diego Miramar College and San Diego Mesa College, teaching courses from Pre-Algebra to Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Mathematics. I've also taught at SDSU (various foundational and advanced math courses), UCSD (Calculus II), and USD (Intermediate Algebra to Applied Mathematics for Science and Engineering).
Beyond the classroom, I've tutored and mentored students and professionals preparing for tests like the GMAT, GRE, SAT, ASVAB, TEAS, and CBEST. I also tutor in SAS, SQL, MATLAB, Mathematica, and Microsoft Excel.
Before teaching, I worked as a SAS programmer across various industries, giving me a practical perspective on applying math to real-world problems. During grad school, I was a TA for Differential Equations, Number Theory, and Partial Differential Equations.
My tutoring style is rooted in the Socratic method — I use open-ended questions to encourage discussion, promote critical thinking, and guide students toward discovering insights themselves. I believe understanding why something works is just as important as knowing how it works." less...
