"Hello my name is Kevin. I am a mechanical engineer and an experienced tutor. I have accomplished a MSE in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan (Class of 2018) with a 3.52 GPA, BS in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University (Class of 2017) with a 3.44 GPA, and I speak fluent Spanish.
Homework, projects, test prep, and understanding the course material, are all areas I can help in. During undergrad, I led weekly academic workshops that helped students through a packet of questions based on that weeks class material. In addition, I held weekly one-on-one office hours, during undergrad, and as a tutor for community colleges postgrad. I focus on getting students competent and comfortable with the fundamentals of whatever topic they’re finding challenging. From my experience, when students are having a hard time with a particular topic, it’s usually a sign that they have not grasped an essential piece of knowledge associated with that topics understanding as a whole. For example, I have had students that struggled with polynomials, and as I work with them, I come to find that the real issue is that they are struggling with an underlying topic, such as combining like-terms, or properties of exponents, etc. I then build the missing foundational knowledge to fill in those gaps, and then they are able to tackle the initial problems they were dealing with much easier.
My goal in tutoring is to help students become autonomous, and critically think to be able to solve their own problems, or recognize/identify what is holding them back from overcoming a challenge. Rather than memorizing formulas or equations, I help students gain a deep understanding by relating the material to things they are most familiar with, or can relate to. I have found this approach to be quite successful in my 7+ years of tutoring college and high school students, and I look forward to working with you, and helping you overcome your academic challenges, and turn them into academic triumphs." less...
