"Hello! I'm Jani, a tutor with math, science, and engineering experience. I generally teach by example and hand-on learning, as I feel applications of a topic help a student understand its point. Furthermore, I also strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels empowered to succeed.
I started my career in the civil engineering field, working within construction and road projects. In 2013, I transitioned to trading stocks and options for a few years. Through my pre-teaching experience, I had learned and gained experience with Python and advanced engineering concepts. In 2017, I began teaching math and physics in Liberia, a country in West Africa. In my first teaching position, we used local supplies and items for example to show how each topic could be applied.
Upon returning to the United States in 2018, I taught high-school math (up to calculus) and physics at a private school in Hermosa Beach. After one year, I became one of two department heads of the combined math and science department. In my three years working at the school, students mostly did hands-on learning to improve their skills. After working with the private school, I taught robotics and tutored periodically, using the same hands-on and learning by example methods.
