I knew I wanted to be a math teacher, and so I decided I needed to be well educated on a variety of math courses. I also just love math classes! I find it valuable to understand mathematics as a whole, even as an elementary teacher. I have my Texas Teachers Certificate in Mathematics 4-8. I am also ESL certified and I have the Professional Pedagogy and Responsibility Certification.
I have been a Math Teacher for 4 years. I have taught Geometry, Personal Finance, and I am now teaching 5th grade math. I have experience teaching high levels of critical thinking along side the mathematical processes because my students are require to take the STAAR exam each year. I have proven data that my students grow and develop greatly from the beginning to end of each year. I simply love being a teacher and enjoy helping my students problem solve to determine their answer.
The best way to teach students, in my opinion is through one on one intervention, no matter how skilled a student may be. My approach to teaching/tutoring is to model how I solve an example problem, including my though process. Essentially, I show the brain how to think it through. I will then allow them to walk through practice questions, and if necessary leading them to the answer with questions. The goal is for my students to learn how to think on their own, because they need to learn how to be successful independently." less...
