"Hello! My name is Ali! I am currently a Ph.D student in Mathematics at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Funnily enough, when I was younger I did not enjoy Mathematics. It wasn't until 8th grade when I got a new teacher that made me absolutely love the subject. They were able to answer all my questions and explained things in such a fun way that I finally figured out that I truly enjoyed the class. When teaching I try my best to emulate that energy and make math as enjoyable as possible. Through my experience, I have learned that each student is different in what they need. When I teach a new lesson, I usually start off with a lesson plan which I believe best fits the material, but sometimes depending on the student, I will sometimes change my approach in teaching that lesson. I enjoy using colors to help explain certain concepts and always make sure to give time to the student to practice problems on their own after working together with them to solve problems.
I currently have around 6 years of experience as a tutor/teaching assistant/teacher. I started tutoring around 2018 during my undergraduate studies. At first, I volunteered to tutor middle and high school students (14-18) who were primarily doing math on FLVS in areas such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. My first official job was tutoring Intermediate Algebra at Florida Atlantic University (students 18+). After becoming a Graduate Student at FAU, I continued to tutor different areas of Math at our Math Learning Center and was assigned to teach different classes, including Intermediate Algebra and Methods of Calculus.
My goal with students is always to make sure that they understand the material being taught to them, in a way that the student feels confident and finds joy in what they learned. I hope to create a comfortable environment for students to learn and ask questions and hope to hear from you! If you ever have any feedback or questions feel free to reach out to me, as I am always willing to learn and grow alongside my students." less...
