"I am Shivi. I graduated cum laude with a Bachelors in Cellular & Molecular Biology from Barnard College of Columbia University. I have worked as a teacher’s assistant for two years, teaching college-level courses such as Introduction to Organismal and Evolutionary Biology, Introduction to Cellular Biology, Organic Chemistry I and II, General Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, and Genetics. I held weekly office hours and pre-exam review sessions guiding with problem sets and addressing student questions. As a laboratory assistant, I taught laboratory techniques (pipetting, dilutions, simple dissections, microscopy, etc.) and related content to a class of 16 students and provided one-on-one assistance to students with writing weekly lab reports. I have also provided one-on-one peer tutoring support, and tutored extensively at Kumon and Mathnasium, which has allowed me to tailor my teaching methods to suit each student’s unique needs and learning style.
In my tutoring sessions, I prioritize understanding each student’s individual strengths and areas for improvement. Whether you’re preparing for the MCAT or seeking to enhance your grasp of complex biological concepts, I will work closely with you to identify your specific challenges and develop a customized study plan. My approach involves breaking down complex topics into manageable parts, providing practical study strategies (such as active recall, spaced repetition, etc.), and offering targeted tips to enhance retention and application of knowledge. My goal is to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and exploring difficult concepts. I believe in fostering a growth mindset, encouraging students to view challenges as opportunities for growth and development. I am easy to teach and will reply promptly. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson." less...
