"My name is Shan, and I'm looking to help students studying for the MCAT! I scored a 525 (100th percentile) in July of 2024, with a score breakdown of 132 on Chemistry and Physics, 131 on Critical Analysis and Reading Skills, 132 on Biology and Biochemistry, and 130 on Psychology and Sociology.
A little bit about my background: I am currently a senior at Emory University expected to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in May of 2025. I have extensive experience in chemistry and related fields of science as I have held positions in the Protasiewicz Lab at Case Western Reserve University (published in the European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry in June of 2024), in the Garcia Lab at New York Medical College and in the Davies Lab at Emory University. In each of these labs, I gained in depth knowledge of an MCAT related field, learning general and physical chemistry at CWRU, biochemistry and pharmacology at NYMC, and organic chemistry at Emory. Through this, I've gained an expertise beyond the scope of the MCAT, allowing me to effectively communicate my understanding to my students.
I've been tutoring for 6 years now, ever since my junior year of high school, across subjects like chess, chemistry, biology, math, the SAT, and now the MCAT. I have a genuine passion for teaching, and I love being able to connect with students and watch them steadily gain the understanding required to do well on the MCAT. I've worked with students who have scored as high as a 521 (98th percentile) on their official exams. Most of my teaching occurs through a virtual setting, where I have access to large whiteboards and set up a camera to visually walk my students through the concepts they are trying to learn. I've developed a variety of methods to help my students improve, ranging from lecture formats during their content review, guided passage analysis as they focus on active review and practice questions, and thought process audits to help students refine their skills as their exam draws closer." less...
