"I have a PhD in anthropology and I have worked as an international research consultant with many multilateral and bilateral development agencies, and NGOs. Besides some experience at the high school level, I have tutored for, and taught undergraduate and graduate courses at universities in Australia, Pakistan, and the United States. Since 2017, I have been teaching at American, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins Universities. Last year, I also got an 'Excellence in Teaching Award' from the Advanced Academic Programs at Hopkins. Some of the courses that I have taught recently include: 'Foundations of Anthropological Thought', 'Introduction to Anthropology', 'Globalization and the Grassroots'; 'Human Security'; 'Security Issues in South Asia'; 'Social Enterprise and Development', 'Research Methods in International Development'; 'Research Design, Advocacy and Communications'; and 'Project Design, Monitoring and Evaluation'.
Besides having written a book ('Development, Poverty and Power in Pakistan', which was published by Routledge in 2014), a few book chapters, and numerous academic papers and technical reports (for UN agencies and other development agencies), I have reviewed several Masters level theses at Hopkins, as well as done peer reviews for books focused on South Asia for leading publishing houses such as Cambridge University Press. I continue to do research for various think-tanks in the Washington D.C. area, and I am currently a non-resident scholar at the Middle East Institute.
I can help students with college personal statements, and with academic papers in a range of humanities and social sciences subjects. I am also open to working with students who want to turn their academic work into op-eds, magazine articles, or other sorts of publications, such as policy papers." less...
