"Hi there! My name is Bri, and I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education. After obtaining my undergraduate degree, I went on to become a certified teacher in two states: Pennsylvania and West Virginia. I currently hold active teaching certifications in both Secondary (Grades 7-12) and Middle Level (Grades 4-8) English Language Arts in the aforementioned states. From a young age, I knew that teaching was my passion. However, it wasn't until my middle and high school years that I discovered the subject that I wanted to specialize in: ELA. I had always enjoyed reading, but I had several superb English teachers in high school that pushed me to excel in writing both creative and academic essays. Thus, when my existing love of reading collided with my newfound success in writing, my passion for becoming a Secondary ELA teacher was born (and that's exactly what I do today!). I am currently a 7th grade ELA teacher, and I try to instill the same love that I have for reading and writing in my own students each and every day.
In fact, I enjoy reading (and learning the most effective ways to teach reading) so much that I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Reading and Literacy Education! As a part of this program, I tutor students that require intensive reading intervention in a one-on-one setting. This intervention consists of implementing an individualized structured literacy curriculum with a specific focus on sight words, word work, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and writing. One of the most important insights that I have gained through my work as a reading interventionist is the importance of creating lesson plans that cater to each individual student's needs. Thus, I aim for all of my lesson plans to be differentiated appropriately to meet the unique needs of the student I am working with.
Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions that you may have about my teaching practice or to schedule a lesson! I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
