"After growing up in Bethesda and graduating from Holton-Arms, Karen earned a B.A. in English from Williams College and an M.A. in English from Boston College. Before moving to private tutoring, Karen taught 7th, 8th, and 9th grades for sixteen years at Holton-Arms and 6th and 8th grades from 2020-2022 at the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy. She has worked with gifted learners, students with learning differences, and twice exceptional students. Karen uses multiple strategies until she finds the ones that help each student be successful. Karen especially enjoys coaching students with their writing and boosting their confidence as readers. She also can help students develop their executive functioning skills.
Karen lives with her husband and two daughters, who both graduated from B-CC High School, in East Bethesda. Her older daughter completed the I.B. Diploma. In addition to working with students, Karen serves on the board of the Children’s Chorus of Washington and volunteers with the Bethesda Historical Society.
