"Hi, I'm Joshua! I graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana cum laude with a Bachelor's of Science ACS certified degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. In college, I tutored in both the General and Organic Chemistry tutoring centers for two years, as well as tutoring in the Physics tutoring center for a year. I have had a passion for teaching throughout my life, from elementary school, onto high school, and into college and it is definitely something I have a passion to continue. I enjoy the one on one aspect of tutoring and the experience of getting to help each student understand a concept in their own unique way. Each time I get to see the concept from another point of view, and in a new way. I also take personal interest in whatever progress a student makes, and relish getting to new bench marks or levels of understanding with my students. Most importantly, I enjoy being a source of positivity in that small segment of the students' lives and strive to make their experience with whatever subject I am assisting them in a bit more fun for them, even if they already excel in that area.
In short: I will find a way to present the information to a student in a way he or she will understand and be able to apply when called upon. In the tutoring centers I worked in, I assisted students of all levels of preparation and skills, from those just needing conformation that they knew a topic for there own personal comfort to those who hadn't been to class or opened their books for an extended period of time. I am familiar with and can both teach and reinforce core concepts as well as connect more advanced topics back to their elementary starting point to simplify, or add nuance to advanced topics to lend deeper understanding. I taught using multiple techniques from practicing problems on a white board, drawing charts, graphs, and figures, to crude physical models and demonstrations such as modeling physical geometries with pencils on hand or sliding calculators down ramps. I have also made and conducted mult" less...
