"Hi, I'm Kiran! I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a minor in Business Finance. Since high school, I have always found myself with a particular skill for teaching various subjects to classmates. Whether tutoring a peer in my classes or someone years younger in less advanced subjects, I have always found my style of breaking complex concepts down to graspable elements to be efficient and effective in assisting students in understanding such concepts. Additionally, while understanding subject matter is the main goal, I employ several methods to elevate the learning experience from one of basic instruction to one of enjoyment (or at least mild enthusiasm). This approach has not only smoothed the learning process, but has also ensured that recently-taught concepts "stick" in the minds of students and allow them to more quickly move on to subsequent material using taught concepts as foundational knowledge. I ensure students have ample time and resources to practice materials independently so as to test their knowledge as well as gain confidence in their own intelligence in the topics in which they struggle. If a student is at first unable to fully grasp certain (or even all) concepts, I will not hesitate to show extra attention in order to address such difficulties – learning will not always take a linear path for all students in all subjects.
I have 3 years of experience in tutoring students ranging from the 7th grade up to my own peers through my senior year of high school and first 2 years of college. In high school, my tutoring primarily took the form of 1-on-1 teaching while in college it took the forms of both 1-on-1 and group tutoring styles. While most tutoring in college was to one-off students, over my 3 years I had the privilege of tutoring many students over the course of a semester and was able to witness real development and achievement thanks to successive tutoring sessions.
