"Hi! I'm Daniel and I have a bachelors and Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. I have been a tutor for the athletics department at Georgia Tech, the Office of Minority education at Georgia Tech, and always found myself helping friends with their assignments and explaining topics. I took multiple courses applying Math, computer programming, engineering design and also have a SolidWorks certification. I was also a goalie at high school club level and played on a team that faced many strong local teams including nationally recognized soccer academies.
I first got into tutoring when I was struggling for money (broke college kids... you get it) and landed a tutoring job at the GT athletics department. I taught them discrete math which I had actually never done before but, I had a perfect record of A's in all my Math classes (all through my schooling life) so why not, the department hired me to learn and teach!
There were 4 students- 2 guys and 2 girls. It was a bit uphill to get the athletes to understand the topics at first but it helped shape my tutoring approach - I learned to go slow making sure that students understand each step or content versus trying to explain all steps of a lesson at one go. I like to be very relatable - keeping people engaged by asking questions to let them think and hearing their difficulties but also using a sharp wit to keep the lessons fun. People learn faster, easier and much more readily when their mind is at ease, free from stress. I also learnt to have a lot of patience. I also like to ask that students let me know ahead of their session what topics they are having problems with, and like to leave assignments to do background work on your own (optional) to help your learning. In the end, I helped those student-athletes turn their grades from 2F's and 2Ds to one C, 2 B's and 1 A.
Feel free to go ahead and contact me for more info on whatever tutoring needs you may have (even if it's not on my listed subjects- because I may just be able to help you ;)" less...
