"With over 15 years of live and studio experience, I am eager to share the knowledge I've gained with students of all ages and skill levels. I've played drums on 10 studio albums and guitar on 3, in addition to hundreds of live performances over the years. While I can adapt my teaching methods to suit many genres, I specialize in classic/prog rock and extreme metal.
Having primarily worked one-on-one with children ages 7-12, I believe that having fun lessons is key in retaining both interest and information. I think this ultimately translates across all age ranges, and I am happy to work with children, teens, and adults. Together, we can utilize some of your favorite songs as vehicles for learning and applying guitar and/or drum techniques.
Typically, I like to begin a lesson with fundamentals. Regardless of experience level, warming up is important. Then, I find it best to spend some time on technical development. Finally, we can apply all of this while working on a song of the student's choice. I find that saving the more enjoyable part for the end not only provides a logical structure for the lesson, but helps give the student something to look forward to, a sort of reward for getting through the more "textbook" learning.
I find it especially crucial to tailor each lesson to the needs of the individual student. This means considering their skill level as well as learning preferences, and adapting my approach accordingly as the student/teacher dynamic develops over time. I am particularly sensitive to those who may be unconventional learners.
