"Hi! I am an experienced elementary school and high school English teacher. I have six months of experience teaching English to children online in China. Total Physical Response (TPR) is an important part of online teaching, along with appropriate realia and props. These methods are an integral part of online teaching and learning. My TESOL certification (120-hours) allows me to teach students whose first language is not English. My professional experience ranges from preK early literacy skills (concepts of print, segmentation, blending, phonics) to Hamlet in 12th grade literature. I love teaching! I am a mentor to students and work with them to plan and prepare for college, careers and beyond.

I have a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Special Education (mild/moderate disabilities). For 6 years, I served as a principal in an elementary setting with approximately 500 students PreK3-4th grade. I believe in the "Goldilocks Rule" when teaching: The instruction should not be too hard or too easy, but just right. The "just right" spot allows the student to feel comfortable before stretching and moving them to the next level. I am a strong believer in teaching students in their ZDP (Zone of Proximal Development). That Zone is determined by using assessments and pinpoint gaps that may be present...that is where true learning begins.

Finally, I am an empty nester and love running (although not far)! I have a husband, Eric, and we have one dog, Max!

For three years, I worked for the Barksdale Reading Institute helping to increase literacy of children in the state of Mississippi. During my tenure with the Insitute, I helped elementary schools across the central region with staff development on best-practices in teaching reading. I attended several intense Training of Trainers (TOT) which allowed me to become very familiar with the foundations of reading and the science behind the brain.
