"I am a graduate of Colorado State University with a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics. I have been tutoring since my college days and have also taught math and science at the high school level for 4 years. I have been tutoring online for about two years and I love helping students achieve academic success in these subjects, particularly because I feel the critical thinking skills developed in learning math or science are applicable in any career field. In my spare time, I do enjoy thinking about hard physics problems, but also going camping, video games, board games, biking, and spending time with my family.

Believe it or not I used to be someone who hated math and dreaded the courses I took. It was not until I started researching physics topics on my own in high school that I realized how cool math is and could be. Because of this, I am able to understand where most students are coming from on math and am able to tailor instruction based on their particular needs. Having a more practical minded approach to math, I can typically bring in examples from different areas to illustrate a concept, but also find the formal methods enjoyable as well.

As a science, physics lends itself to be understood in a variety of ways and I love utilizing all of them to ensure understanding and conceptualization of a topic. From visualization, familiar real-world examples, and experiments to formal and technical methods, I like to give concrete examples that we can then build on to work with more abstract concepts. This process helps students understand physics in a visceral way as it connects to their everyday experience, but also allows them to think in terms of fundamentals that allows them to approach new problems in meaningful ways. Nothing gives a student more confidence than knowing they have the tools to tackle any problem thrown their way.
