"Hi, I'm Connor! I have been tutoring and teaching Organic Chemistry for a few years now, and have tutored other subjects in the past as well. I work on Organic Chemistry I and II material every week with students so the material is always fresh in my mind. I am currently working as an R&D Scientist at The Estée Lauder Companies. I have a B.S. in Chemistry and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stony Brook University. As an undergraduate at Stony Brook, I was a teaching assistant for two semesters for Organic Chemistry I and II, and won a Student of the Month award for outstanding contributions as a TA. From TAing Organic Chemistry, as well as from tutoring chemistry, math, and french, I developed a love for teaching and a unique method for helping students to visualize and understand the material. Through tutoring, I hope to help students work through the challenges they face and to make difficult subject matter enjoyable.
After graduating with my Bachelors and finishing being an undergraduate teaching assistant, I began tutoring privately for the past three years. My primary tutoring focus has been in Organic Chemistry I and II, where my students not only improved their grades, but were able to learn how to visualize and understand the reactions they saw in class. I have experience tutoring both in-person as well as online. I have also tutored AP level chemistry as well as graduate inorganic chemistry. I generally work with college-aged undergraduate students. My approach to tutoring is very interactive; I don't believe that lecturing is the best way to teach a student. Instead, I like to have students work through and explain their thought process to me as they work through a challenging problem. This allows me to find out their current understanding of the material, and I can step in to provide tips and direction in solving the problem, if needed. I've found that when students are able to figure out the material while being walked through, rather than just being told the answer or how to solve the problem," less...
