"Hi there! I am Danny. And a I am passionate about teaching! I have spent the past twenty years teaching Math and Physics courses at a public high school in Virginia. As these courses are the bedrock of so many fields of expertise and further study at the collegiate level, I know that it is essential for students to be well-grounded in these subjects. Therefore, I have dedicated my career to developing methods that are effective at training students how to "think" like a mathematician or physicist. It is such a joy for me to watch academic frustration melt away!
After minoring in Mathematics in college, I spent the next twenty years teaching high school Algebra and Geometry courses. Over the years, I have taught over 1,000 students. I have witnessed many kids transform from "math-fearers" to "math-fans"! Year after year, my students have been highly successful on the End-Of-Course tests administered by the state. It is a thrill for me to teach students how to think mathematically so that math actually makes sense and is not simply a method of "getting the right answers."
As for physics, I fell in the love with "the granddaddy of all science" when I was a high school student. I attended James Madison University on a physics scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in Physics four years later, having been awarded the "Outstanding Junior Physics Major" and "Outstanding Senior Physics Major" awards by the Physics Department. Although I had the knowledge base and skillset to continue my study of physics at the graduate level, I realized that my passion and joy was sharing physics with others. This is what drove me into teaching full-time, eventually obtaining my Masters in Physics Education along the way. I am fully aware that physics can be an intimidating and confusing subject. Therefore, I make it my goal to teach students how to think like a physicist, changing "intimidation" into fascination and "confusion" into wonder!
