"Hello, my name is Paul. I am a graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy with an MS in Applied Physics from Yale University, and an MAT in Physics, Math, and General Science from Connecticut College. I served 25 years in the USCG, including serving as a Commanding Officer, Professor of Physics and chair of the Physics dept. at the Academy. My experience with an amazing and talented HS Physics teacher, who was able to always make learning fun was the reason I wanted to go into teaching. I now also have 15 years of experience as a high school Physics teacher, teaching everything from Conceptual Physics to AP Physics C. In that 23 years of Physics teaching, I have most enjoyed my 1 on 1 time with students, as this is when I really get to make a difference and find ways to build both their Physics knowledge, but more importantly, their confidence that they CAN learn what can be a difficult subject. I have been tutoring on and off during that entire time and find that I can provide many ways to help a student address any difficulties that they may be having.
When I work with any student, I try to understand where the student is, what motivates them, and how to best address their learning. I have accumulated many materials and techniques that have proven to be successful in helping students both understand the concepts behind the laws that govern how the world works, and how to successfully and efficiently solve problems regarding those concepts. I connect those concepts directly to things that they experience in their everyday life (i.e., driving a car, sports, music), and find that helps their understanding.
If you think that I can help you achieve your goals with regards to learning Physics, please contact me. You will find me to be flexible, understanding, and anxious to find a way to help you succeed, whether it be in a course that you are currently taking, a review of prior material, or preparing for an upcoming course. Whether you contact me or not, good luck in finding the right fit to achieve YOUR" less...
