"Nice to meet you, I’m Dan! I have had a unique relationship with education, as I was homeschooled during high school, but have attended three different colleges since. I have attended a community college, a state university, and a graduate program; each expanded my worldview. Through these diverse experiences, I have learned how to teach myself, how to be taught, how to teach others, and how to tutor students of another professor’s or my own! I graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s with honors in psychology, and a very long thesis to boot. Additionally, I have a Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. When teaching psychology, I identify and describe the energizing and fascinating aspects of the content and make the content relevant to my student’s lives. Material relevant to my student’s lives makes more sense, is learned faster, and sticks around for longer. I love making difficult material interesting, lasting, and impactful.
While attending my Master’s program, I was a Teaching Assistant my first year, and the Instructor of Record my second year. I was a teaching assistant for Psych 301 (Analysis of Psychological Data), and Psych 302 (Research Methods in Psychology), as the second course builds directly on the first. In my second year of grad school, I taught Psych 101 to 86 students (68 students in the Fall semester, and 18 in the Spring semester). I loved working with my students, both in and outside the classroom. Seeing a student have that “lightbulb moment” of a tricky concept or an abstract theory brings me joy. I have worked hard to refine my teaching process, and now my experiences can be your gain!
My lessons tend to be based on student needs. Every student will grasp material differently; so my lessons stay flexible and adaptable. I want to personalize your experience, so any resources you can bring are helpful. Additionally, I have helped tutor for homework; if you bring the questions we can work through them together!" less...
