Some of the unique skills that I offer are as follows: I'm Spanish-speaking friendly! I bring a comfortable atmosphere for the student to safely make mistakes; mistakes are essential and will never be ridiculed. We use them to target strengths and weaknesses. I also bring humor to each lesson, and can appreciate a student with a sense of humor as well! I like to make learning enjoyable (fun and interesting) but I also like to stick to a schedule within each lesson. I use clear, mutually-agreed upon objectives for each lesson or unit that are determined by the student's data. Finally, I come prepared with the experience of working with students of all ages, but specializing in high school-aged students the past eight years.
My experience in education can be summed up as follows: Assisting kindergarteners one-to-one on a weekly basis as an aide, pursuing teaching credentials in addition to my Biology and Spanish degrees, student-teaching in both urban and rural schools, teaching Regents sciences and maths full time (this comprises the bulk of my experience), earning a Masters in educational leadership, consulting as a Biology content specialist for college students at a local university, serving as department chair at the largest high school in my district, and substitute teaching most recently.
I primarily work best with motivated learners, and I do require respectful language in all interactions with students as I will offer the same in return. I aim to work with students seeking Living Environment Regents prep primarily, but I am flexible to work around needs of the student. Thank you for your time and consideration -- best of luck finding the right tutor to meet your goals! -- Sarah" less...
