"Hi, I’m Maggie! I am a certified special education teacher in New York with experience teaching math, reading and writing to elementary, middle, and high school students. I have spent the last three and a half years as a tutor and special education teacher at a small, special purpose private school in Cape Elizabeth, Maine teaching math, reading and writing intervention to students with learning disabilities. I worked one on one with students while completing my MsEd in Special Education at the University of Southern Maine with magma cum laude honors and transitioned to small group and classroom teaching. As a classroom and small group teacher, I adapted my one on one experience to work on application and generalization of skills. This has ranged from leading class projects to create new board games, create paper bag puppets representing historical figures, and to learn to enjoy reading novels and use close reading strategies to produce creative book report such as soundtracks, lap books, and crocs representing characters. No matter the setting, I focus on creating a student focused environment that is fun, supportive, and engaging to help students meet their academic goals.

I am highly experienced with Lindamood-Bell programming in phonemic awareness and reading comprehension. I am also experienced in Writing Revolution programming as well as Framing Your Thoughts writing approach. My teaching style utilizes executive functioning strategies from Sarah Ward and is worked into lessons to help students keep track of time, plan projects, and stay on task. I enjoy using these programs and strategies to help students reach their fullest potential and love watching the moment when it “clicks” for a student. I aim to have fun and make learning enjoyable for all students!
