"Hello I am Amber! I have always been drawn to help people, which is why I originally was inspired to be a counselor. I have always loved, loved, loved school. However, my masters degree that I did not complete was in mental health counseling from Walden University that included 86 credits graduate credits. This was licensure to be a counselor. I achieved a 3.5, (until life got in the way I was unable to graduate). My Undergraduate in a double Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University in French Language and English Literature.
I have tutored English to foreigners while living abroad in France. I did some informal tutoring to High schoolers while in College in French. Now, much more focused on English and writing tutoring and special education. This inclusion social emotional learning (autism, behavior challenges like addiction and learning difficulties). My approach is extremely flexible and depends on the student because I usually work in high stress or emotion settings. I care about the well being first and see how we can approach the hang ups. Depending on my students I adapt my lesson to their needs and go from there. I am mindful of what the goal they have in mind is.
I am experienced substitute teacher for almost two years and assistant teacher with special education in Vancouver public schools, Gresham school district, Multnomah ESD, and Beaverton Regional ESD. I have experience popping around in all subjects, while my bread and butter in English and Special Education. I am happy to help especially one one one and as a group, especially with students who think something is impossible. In my experience usually just need to take a bigger problem and break down into smaller pieces.
I want to see what we can do help student and families. Above thrive at the best of their ability. I welcome any feedback as well. I will be easy to reach. Feel free to reach me at any time with any inquiries or questions. I hope you would like schedule a lesson soon." less...
