"Hi, my name is Andrew! I graduated with my bachelors degree from Washington State University with a degree in teaching. I am a certified teacher of English Language Arts which includes reading skills, writing, and speaking. I have taught a variety of English courses at the high school level, from freshmen level English to AP and college level courses for seniors such as African American literature and AP Language Arts. This gives me a well rounded approach to the content and the ability to meet learners where they are at. I also worked as an undergraduate writing tutor at the writing center at WSU for three years while I was a student. This required me to work with college students on a diverse range of writing assignments and help them ensure they were communicating their ideas as effectively as possible. Altogether, I have about a decade of experience helping others with language arts materials.

I have been working with high school students for the past several years and college students before that, but the process is always similar: Break down materials and concepts into step by step, scaffolded lessons and use multiple methods of practice to achieve mastery. I have found that even the most complex topics are achievable if they are approached one step at a time. I also strongly believe getting to know my students or mentees allows me to tailor lessons and suggestions to them in the best way!

Helping others to express themselves through the written word and find confidence in their own voice is one of the most rewarding things to witness. Lending a hand to a student or mentee that leads to them finally grasping the concepts of literature or a tough passage is my joy. It has fueled my passion for teaching high schoolers and will lead me to be the best tutor I can be. I have experience with one on one, small group, and whole class environments and I am comfortable with all three.
