"I have over 20 years of teaching experience. I started out as a Teaching Assistant when I was doing my Master's degree. I had never taught before and I was surprised to find out how much I enjoyed it. A few years later I returned to that same school (William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ) as a Biology Department Adjunct Faculty member. I continued as an adjunct for almost 20 years, only stopping when I changed my primary job and was not permitted to have a second position.
Over that time I taught both the lecture and lab sections for General Biology I and II. This was the foundation course for Biology majors. I also taught Microbiology and Human Biology labs. I truly love conveying the principles and pathways on all levels of science to students and leading them to their own enjoyment and mastery of natural science.
As I worked in biomedical scientific research for many years I had the opportunity to plan and carry out investigations into questions related to human disease. This allowed me to constantly deepen my knowledge of Biology in general. Biochemistry and microbiology were essential parts of these investigations.
I also had the opportunity to teach the many types of students (high school, college and graduate levels) who spent time in these labs.
My undergraduate degree was in American literature. I have a life-long love of reading and am experienced in the skills involved in analyzing literature and writing essays. The ability to use grammar correctly is a necessity for all types of writing, making it a basic skill for English and all other students.
My aim as a tutor is to make learning a straightforward process. First, to help students acquire study skills if necessary and then to apply those skills to successful learning. Please contact me if you need help with your biology or English studies." less...
