My name is Jem. I am a former teacher, school administrator and teacher coach with over 15 years of experience. I have experience with grades K-6 in both mathematics and ELA. I worked with various curriculum including the Common Core. I graduated from University of Vermont in 2010 (B.S in Secondary Education). Graduated from Columbia University at Teachers College with a MA in Education Policy. I also have another masters degree from Touro University in Special Education Grades 1-6.
I love to find ways to make learning fun for your child and also support with your child’s academic needs. I am patient and consistent and willing to support all types of learners.
For reading I help students develop essential literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension to build strong reading foundations. Also supporting with sentence structure, spelling, handwriting, and creative and informational writing to strengthen written communication.
For math I support students to build a strong mathematical foundation by teaching number sense, counting, and basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to develop fluency with numbers. Support with place value, fractions, and decimals to deepen understanding of numerical relationships. As well as supporting with problem-solving, critical thinking, and reasoning skills to apply math in real-life situations.
