"Hello! My name is Kayleigh (pronounced Kay-Lee). I am a fiction writer, developmental editor, and a believer in lifelong learning.
I grew up curious about everything, and it was the teachers who encouraged this curiosity and helped me to learn who helped to shape me into who I became. Wanting to carry that forward and teach in higher education, I obtained my Master of Fine Arts in Fiction and my Master of Arts in Writing. Dedicated to my education and my craft, I graduated summa cum laude from both.
I formerly taught university-level courses in advanced essay writing, creative writing, and professional writing. This encompassed helping students to build writing skills as well as an ability to identify problem areas within, revise, and proofread their work. Although I've since left higher education to work with authors who are polishing their manuscripts, I still enjoy nurturing young writers and helping them to gain confidence in their voice and style.
My method of teaching is very hands-on. Although some of learning to write is through reading, it is more about doing. I enjoy reading essays or stories and providing encouraging feedback and resources to my students. My goal is to help them not online refine their work to better suit their readers, but to help them find their own voice. I believe that the page is a writer's lump of clay—the first draft is the chunk we throw onto a potter's wheel. After that, we work to shape it through revision into a piece of art. This is true whether the writing is a story, personal essay, report, or professional text. Writing is revision, and I'm here to help you learn that skill." less...
