"I have over 15 years of combined teaching and tutoring experience, and I have always loved helping students learn.
After obtaining my Master's degree in Education, I taught fourth grade at the American International School of Bolivia for two years. As we were transitioning to the Common Core program my first year there, I have lots of experience designing lesson plans that align with the Common Core curriculum. Since returning to the United States, I have continued tutoring for years, and now tutor virtually full-time.
Outside of teaching, I have mostly tutored elementary math, reading, and writing. I take pride in making sure any student who hates math when they first come to me at least finds it tolerable after having worked with me, if not fun. I believe clear writing is an essential skill. In college, I was one of only five selected student writing tutors, and I worked with students on all areas of their writing to improve their assignments and brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing skills.
I really enjoy making connections between school and the outside world, and I feel most students struggle with math because there isn't enough of that in their education background. By making math tangible and relating it to the student's personal and unique experiences, math becomes its own puzzle students can visualize and solve with given tools at their disposal instead of temporarily memorizing a bunch of processes and formulas.
I am fairly new to this site, but am definitely not new to teaching. Please feel free to reach out anytime to schedule a virtual lesson!" less...
