"My name is Whitney M. I have taught reading inclusion and computers at an elementary level and I currently teach High School English 2. I Have my teaching certification in Secondary English and I am ESL certified.
My Bachelor degree is in Instructional design and my Masters is in psychology.(I have also taken and passed the NCE) Although I did not need a masters degree to teach I still pursued it and I plan on going back for my Doctorate. I love learning, teaching, and just being in a n educational setting. I truly believe that everyone can succeed, some just need more time than others. This is why I feel tutoring is a crucial learning tool. Some people need extra help on their work and that is ok! Everyone needs help at some point in their life.
My current teaching position is at an alternative high school. This means I am very experienced with different learning types and levels. I am experienced in helping students who have fallen below level and students who have different challenges with school and in life. I also have worked with tutoring students after school need or want extra help. With working in the school system I have come to realize that it is very important meet a student where the are at academically and emotionally. Making sure there is a solid foundation for the skill they are trying to is the only way they can be successful and sometimes this means going back to the basics.
While I taught at an elementary school I did reading inclusion. Students who struggled to read and write were pulled unto my classroom for extra support. This for of tutoring is done during school hours but is still a very important extra resource to help students create a solid foundation in their reading and writing.
I love teaching and I am very flexible with the styles that I teach in. I have many different resources that I utilize to make sure I am helping the student the way that is best for them." less...
