"Hi! I'm Matthew. I graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in pure mathematics from the University of California Riverside (UCR) in 2016 and 2018 respectively. Furthermore, I was enrolled in the PhD program as a graduate student and teaching assistant for 5 years at UCR from 2016 until 2021. I took an assortment of classes such as complex analysis, topology, abstract algebra, Lie algebras and a multitude of specialized classes.

As a teaching assistant, I have helped teach a wide variety of classes including but not limited to, abstract algebra, multi variable differential and integral calculus, and discrete math. Most of my students were in the age range of 20-30. I have most of my experience in calculus. I facilitated weekly discussions with students in a classroom through the use of worksheets, lectures, and quizzes to encourage interactive engagement. I have 4 years of experience teaching in person and 2 years online. In addition, I held either 1 on 1 office hours or group office hours many times each week to offer more opportunities for success for my students. I also employ an interactive visual style of teaching through the use of 2-D and 3-D graphing tools such as Desmos, GeoGebra, and MathPix3D. I mainly teach through example driven problems that teach the ideas students need to know to succeed.

I am a very patient teacher and my hope is that students feel encouraged to ask as many questions as they like.

In addition to mathematics, I have around 10 years of experience in lessons playing the piano.
