"Hi, I'm Alex! I'm a freelance professional jazz musician and teacher living in New York City. I previously lived in New Orleans for 7 years where I worked as freelance professional jazz trumpet player specializing in traditional New Orleans style jazz. I currently maintain a busy schedule as a musician in both New York city and throughout the northeast.
I not only love to play music, but I also love teaching music! In New Orleans, I was an elementary band director at the Archdiocese Band Program of New Orleans. I directed the bands at as many as 4 elementary schools at a time, teaching students grades 2-8. I also was an invited guest artist instructor at the Straight 8 Summer Master Jazz Camp in Garland, TX in 2017 and 2019, where I had the opportunity to work with high school jazz musicians to help them improve their skills and hone their craft. I moved to New York in August of 2019 to pursue a Master's Degree in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and upon graduation, I have taught 3-5 grade music for students with special needs and have continued to teach private lessons.
When I lived in New Orleans, a city with an incredibly rich musical culture, my schedule was jammed pack full of gigs. In one year alone, I played almost 400 gigs! I was fortunate to have these opportunities, but it certainly took a toll on my endurance as a trumpet player at first. Over time, I developed habits and techniques that allowed me to have the stamina to play all day and all night at a high level. I love teaching these same techniques to students and focusing on the fundamental aspects of the trumpet and trombone." less...
