"Hello Students! My name is Jonathan, also commonly known as "Mr. Jon". I spent a wonderful five years serving the Anaheim area as an Instructional Assistant for the Anaheim Union High School District and a year prior to that as an AVID Tutor, as well as individual after school tutoring for students typically between grades 7 - 12. If you ask someone what their least favorite subject in school is, chances are, they are going to say Math! Perhaps it's even your least favorite subject. When I teach my students, I strive to show them the "why" behind math. Not simply repeating algorithms or formulas, but showing them the magic that makes math work. It's my belief that by embracing the reasoning behind mathematical concepts and understanding the stories they tell, anybody - and I mean anybody - can learn to be great at, and love, math.
I attended Golden West College and transferred to California State University, Fullerton where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Teaching Mathematics. There are other concentrations to choose from (Applied, Actuarial, Probability and Statistics, and so on) but I felt a passion for learning math in a way that helps me teach students how to embrace math in a way that only the Teaching concentration could provide. CSU Fullerton is world renowned for the commitment to excellence when it comes to their teaching programs and I certainly benefitted from that as an undergraduate student.
No matter the challenges you may face, I'm confident that together, we can solve the (square) root of your problems! :)" less...
