"My name is Dawson, I am a former high school educator. I previously taught Algebra I, Algebra II, and Algebra III. Additionally, I have tutored students in Science, English, Math, History, Computer, and Literature. I graduated from Arkansas State University as a double major in Physical Education and Health Sciences along with General Studies. I recently graduated with an MBA with emphasis in Entrepreneurship at Southern New Hampshire University. Currently, I am studying for the MCAT and hope to pursue a Doctoral in Osteopathic medicine.
As a former educator and tutor, my method has a strong emphasis in the "I do, we do, you do" policy. In short, I show the student(s) how to do something then guide them and finally let the student(s) do it on their own. Moreover, I do not tutor to give the answers to the student(s), rather guide them to ensure proper understanding and application of the material(s) being taught to them.
Some comments I have received from students and parents include the following:
" You hold us accountable for our actions" - Student that almost never showed up to class.
" I don't how, but you were able to keep my child focused for almost 2hrs. and I struggle to get him sitting down for just one." - Parent of a student who had Autism, ADHD, and Mood disorder(s).
"My children's grades went from D to A when you tutored." - Parent of siblings whom I tutored
I mention these comments to show that while I am not a perfect tutor, my strategies are effective. All of the students I have tutored and/or taught were from grades 3-12.
My primary goal is to ensure proper education and encouragement for students to ensure that they succeed not only in the classroom but in the world." less...
