"I'm a published writer who has several years experience tutoring K through college students in a variety of subjects. My specialties are writing, English and reading, but I have also tutored elementary and middle school students in all curriculum subject areas.
As an undergrad at the University of Louisville, I worked with college athletes for the Academic Athletic Counseling Service. During this time, I also tutored elementary and middle school students in all core subjects of the curriculum, and high school students in test prep and writing.
As a freelance writer, I've won scholarships, grants and awards including: a Pen American Grant, a Kentucky Foundation for Women Grant and was a runner up for The Discovery/Nation poetry contest. I've been published in several alternative newsweeklies, regional newspapers, literary magazines and online publications including: TheHuffingtonPost.com, Paste.com and Garnetnews.com. Last year, I was accepted into a writing seminar at Yale University, which I attended in summer 2017.
I have a BA and MA in English Literature and an MFA in Writing. Writing and teaching have always been second nature to me. I've trained people in corporate settings, and taught people who have an intense fear of water how to swim. I think I enjoy teaching so much, because I love to learn and believe everyone has something to teach me.
As a tutor, I approach each student as an individual and tailor the lesson plan around what their learning needs are. My core belief is that every student requires clear, concise direction, lots of encouragement and most importantly patience. I believe that anyone can learn how to do anything." less...
