"Hello! My name is Matt. I'm a 17-year veteran of the Air Force. My career experience includes over 12 years of work in Arabic Linguistics, and 6 years of hands-on experience in Cyber Security. During my time working with Arabic, I became proficient in translating written and spoken Arabic into English, and dealt with a very wide range of subjects. It was during this part of my career where I realized I had a passion for educating others. In the military, we're expected to do more than just "the job". First and foremost, we are expected to become subject matter experts in our fields. But beyond that, we also need to be able to teach the next generation of Airmen to become subject matter experts themselves so that they can replace us when we eventually move on. Training the next generation made me realize how much I enjoy teaching others.

Eventually I decided to change my career focus to cyber security because of how interesting it was to me. I also made that decision because I wanted to set myself up for success and opportunity once I eventually ended my time in the military. And after spending the last 6 years learning the job and teaching my replacements, I came to the realization that I wanted to do more than just teach my replacements: I wanted to educate as many people as possible. There were a few reasons behind this. Primarily, I simply enjoy teaching people. But what had the most impact is the knowledge I gained about the world through the missions I worked on with the Air Force.
