"Jonathan has been tutoring, teaching, advising, and counseling for over 24 years. He's not only proficient in "all things English," he also has training in active listening and peer support, which facilitates good communication with students and parents.
Graduating from Hopkins School in 2000, and Hampshire College in 2006 (where he was a teaching assistant his senior year), he pursued a career in the film industry, culminating in a position managing eleven direct reports. One major responsibility in this position was educating other employees about editing software and methods, using material he produced. He worked side-by-side with his students, and always making sure to guide them to the answer instead of giving it. His favorite part of the position was the teaching, and when he left the industry, moving back into tutoring was the obvious choice.
He currently works with students in middle school and up, and is a volunteer ESOL tutor. He always tailors his approach to both teacher expectations and student goals. In tutoring English, Jonathan utilizes course material, graded papers and tests, in-session writing assignments, and flash cards and multiple choice tests for vocabulary. Whenever appropriate, he provides tips and feedback on study skills and how to work efficiently. In addition to tutoring English and academic writing, Jonathan has helped students write personal essays for high school and college applications.
Jonathan's approach doesn't end with the tutoring session. He provides regular session reports for parents of minor students, going over what was covered, and with notes about how the student is doing with the material, identifying strengths, challenges, and points of progress." less...
