"Hello! My name is Alex. I am a 2020 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Economics & Statistics and a minor in Chinese. I graduated with a 3.3 GPA and honors in global distinction for my success in studying Chinese, including at the prestigious National Taiwan University.
Throughout my experience as a tutor, I have supported students of all ages in various subjects. For two years, I served as a mentor and tutor for Pittsburgh middle school and high school students, where I assisted students in subjects, specifically algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, and pre-calculus. During my senior year, I was an AmeriCorps teacher's aide in elementary schools and served as the president of my school's Chinese Language Learning Club. Through both of these experiences, I learned how to perfect lesson planning and effectively communicate information to students. I have also privately tutored classmates who struggled with college economics and mathematics courses. I'm inspired to tutor because I enjoy the opportunity to help others meet their academic goals. I recognize the difficulty some students face when studying. Because of this, I aim to be a helpful, reliable guide. I also realize that not all students learn new subjects the same way. Therefore, I will work to figure out the best learning style for each student I tutor so that they succeed in their courses. Additionally, I teach, so students learn concepts instead of memorizing them. I always find ways to connect ideas to help students contextualize material in the broader scope of the course.
I have taken courses up to calculus 3, linear algebra, econometrics, game theory, and high-level statistics courses. I understand their degree of difficulty and how overwhelming they can be, but anyone can learn these subjects. It's just a matter of determining how students can best learn them.
Please feel free to send me a message so we can work together and help you succeed, and I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!" less...
