"I am a recent graduate from Samford University where I received a bachelors degree in Geography and Environmental Science and a certificate in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS). During my time at university, I worked as a lab assistant in a GIS lab twice a week. In this role, I supported undergraduate students with their labs, projects, and homework, helping them navigate the complexities of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). My duties involved guiding students through the software and providing explanations for concepts that were often difficult to grasp. This hands-on experience strengthened my understanding of GIS while also allowing me to develop my teaching and problem-solving skills.
One of the most important aspects of my job was adapting my instructional approach to meet the diverse needs of the students. Since each student came in with varying levels of knowledge and skills, I had to quickly assess their understanding and adjust my explanations accordingly. Whether I was helping a student who was new to GIS or assisting someone with more advanced questions, I made sure to provide clear, personalized guidance. This experience taught me the value of flexibility and patience when teaching complex material." less...
