"Hi my name is Jack! I am currently working on a thesis in linguistics at UMass Amherst, and I have two bachelors degrees in philosophy and linguistics. I tutored through the UMass Learning Resource Center for 4 years, offering support in a range of topics including economics, calculus, statistics, linguistics, computational logic, and writing. I have also worked as counselor, swim instructor, lifeguard instructor and after-school teacher for elementary and middle school students. I love helping students gain the skills they need to succeed in their classes, and seeing them gain confidence in themselves. I have also tutored for two years through the philosophy department at UMass.

In my tutoring sessions, my primary goal is to make sure that the student builds the understanding and skills that they will need to be able to continue learning on their own outside of the classroom. To this end, I like to provide the student with opportunities to employ the material we are covering. Not only does this help me gauge their progress, it also helps students to gain confidence in their abilities.
