"I have always loved learning how the world works, but my love of teaching others stems from those who taught me. I was lucky enough to have a few very good teachers who showed me how much fun a learning environment can be. Ever since I have wanted to share this realization with anyone who will listen to me talk about gravity, derivatives, or why the Quadratic Formula is great but the Cubic Formula is something you never want to need. I graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in applied physics, and got my first experience with tutoring there, helping student athletes keep their grades up and stay off academic suspension. The fact that many of these students were only there because they had to be made it even more rewarding to find ways to share the wonder of knowing how things work.
More recently, I spent four years working for an online private tutoring company, covering math, physics, and the SAT and ACT. In that role, I worked with middle school, high school, and college students, and have developed ample experience with fostering a growth mindset and helping students to realize their own ability to solve problems and answer questions. I work with students to identify what concepts or techniques they have trouble with, then walk them through a few examples before asking them to practice a few more on their own. I strive to keep my teaching style flexible, both to more easily tackle newly discovered areas of challenge, and to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
I am confident in my knowledge of all math and physics up to undergraduate level, and can review or learn any additional material you might need help with. I have worked with individual students, lead small groups of up to ten students, and even hosted occasional lecture style presentations for larger groups. I am also aware that I too am still learning, and will happily welcome any requests, resources, or approaches that you think will benefit your student. Feel free to reach out with questions!" less...
