"I'm Cory. I graduated from college with my teaching degree in Human Performance and Physical Education. Since then I have returned for my Masters degree in Teaching with an emphasis on special education. While deciding what to focus on while studying for my Masters degree, I felt that a Special Education certification would provide me with an opportunity to help more students succeed and achieve a goal they didn't think was possible.
I have always been good with numbers and mathematics, and have taught Algebra 1 at the High School level. I am currently teaching 8th grade math. One of the reasons that I love teaching math is seeing the excitement and feeling of accomplishment in the students when they understand a topic they have struggled with in the past. I feel my background in special education also provides a lot of differentiated teaching techniques that help cater to a wide variety of learners.
I've been teaching for six years and helped tutor throughout college for approximately two years. The one on one setting of tutoring helps to build a rapport with the student while also providing an environment where they feel comfortable answering questions without the fear of embarrassment should they be wrong; which is crucial to teaching all aspects of a topic in my opinion. My teaching philosophy is that knowing how to explain why answers are wrong is just as important as knowing why an answer is correct.
I'm very easy going so should you have further questions feel free to reach out. I'm open to suggestions and insights from those who know the student best. I look forward to working with you!" less...
