"Hi, I'm Bassel! I graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University (3.92 GPA), with degrees in History and Computer Science. I'm currently pursuing my J.D. at NYU. My past CS coursework allows me to feel comfortable tutoring various Math courses, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II. As my main work these days involves extensive academic research and writing, I am qualified to tutor students in subjects like Reading and Writing. I'm also happy to assist with test-prep, especially the ACT, SAT, and LSAT. I got a 36 on my ACT, a 1590 on my SAT, and scored in the 98th percentile on the LSAT.
I've fortunately gotten the chance to work with students of various different age groups studying many different subject areas, including tutoring kindergarteners in the NYC public schools to improve reading skills, mentoring local middle and high schoolers and helping them with subjects from essay-writing to math, and TAing college courses in Discrete Math and Python programming. In these various experiences, we worked in different settings: at times it was one-on-one, and at others in groups, so I am happy to work with you to find a solution that benefits your students!
My approach to teaching is to meet the student where they are at, using their existing reference points and building on concepts they are already comfortable with to help them gain mastery of the subject matter. In my experience, this approach leads the students to enjoy the material more and develop a passion for it so they feel equipped to continue learning confidently for years to come. Every student is different, and each will understand the material differently, so it's important not to impose one-size-fits all solutions. This, of course, requires paying close attention to the individualized needs of each student, and I am committed to making this happen.
I am responsive and easy to reach, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or recommendations. I look forward to working with your student!" less...
