"My name is Jonathan, and I am a violin and viola teacher with over 8 years of teaching experience. I am a graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I completed my Masters in Viola Performance, studying with members of the Boston Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. During my time at Indiana University, I also received extensive training in string pedagogy from some of the leading teachers in the field. My performing experience includes playing with many professional ensembles, including the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, and the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. I have also performed with the New World Symphony in Miami and currently play with the American Youth Symphony as assistant principal viola. In addition to teaching privately, I am a viola teaching artist with YOLA, the LA Phil's educational outreach program.

As a teacher, I'm happy to work with students of any age or ability level. Whether you're an adult beginner starting a fun new hobby or a high school student preparing for college auditions, I look forward to helping you reach your musical potential!

I believe that given the right tools and guidance, anybody can learn to play beautifully. I strongly emphasize establishing a healthy technical foundation, so that students can learn to play in a very free and effortless way. It is also very important as a teacher to break down difficulties into small, more manageable tasks in order to build students’ motivation and confidence. Although most of my experience is with classical music, I can help students learn any genre or style of music that they are excited about.
