"Hello! I'm Maya, and I graduated from Bates College in May 2023 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Hispanic Studies. During my time in college, I worked as a tutor at the elementary, high school, and college levels, focusing on early math skills and writing development. I became passionate about tutoring because it allows me to provide personalized support and help students build confidence in their learning, something I deeply valued in my own educational journey. As someone with dyslexia, I relied on extra support to succeed academically, and this experience inspired me to help others improve their writing and language skills through tutoring.During my first year, I served as an America Reads/America Counts tutor for 5th-grade students, helping them develop math, reading, and writing skills. For over a year, I worked one-on-one with students in a 5th-grade classroom at a local elementary school in Lewiston, Maine. When the pandemic hit, I transitioned to remote tutoring for high school students during my sophomore year. In my junior year, I taught English to Spanish-speaking elementary students at a local school while studying abroad in Spain. This experience allowed me to blend English and Spanish in my teaching approach. In my last year of college, I was a peer-writing and language tutor at my college's writing program, specializing in Spanish writing and APA styled research papers.
With my experience in both writing and Spanish language support, I hope to build meaningful connections with my tutees and provide them with specialized support. I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, so please provide any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide to ensure the most successful tutoring sessions. I am easy to reach and will always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a tutoring session!" less...
