"Tutoring if fulfilling for me because I like to share my writing knowledge and experience to help students communicate more effectively through writing. I have a bachelor's degree in English and for the last 14 years I've been a successful freelance writer and editor. When a student asks me for help with their writing, I provide suggestions for not only structuring their material logically, but just as important, presenting it in a clear, understandable way that is appropriate for readers.

I make tutoring a positive experience for my students because, while I constructively point out ways in which they can improve their writing, I also emphasize the good things about their writing--and there are always good things to build upon. I try to share my appreciation and enthusiasm for good writing--how a well-written phrase or sentence can effectively communicate the writer's thoughts and even convey their emotions. The rewards of being able communicate well through writing is worth the effort it takes to acquire that ability!
