"Hi, I’m Mahir!
I’m in my final year at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), pursuing a Bachelor’s in Information Systems. I also hold two Associate’s degrees in Computer Science and General Engineering. Over the years, I’ve built a solid foundation in STEM—spanning engineering, programming, and mathematics—but I've always had passion for sharing this knowledge with children, because I believe the next generations can take our knowledge and reach even greater heights. Empowering and uplifting young minds is essential for building a better world!
In the past, I've worked with Panda Programmer, which partners with local elementary schools to teach Scratch, a visual-based program that teaches kids foundational programming concepts using "building-blocks" of code, to build fun games and animations. As a lead teacher, I managed classrooms up to 18 students, and led exciting, engaging environments where children could have fun while learning.
Additionally, I served as a math "coach" through a UMBC partnership with Baltimore public schools. The program focuses on supporting elementary/middle school students who are struggling in their math classes, working in small groups to strengthen their skills based on the child's unique strengths and personality, fostering a "coaching" environment rather than a traditional teaching approach.
As a tutor, I like to teach in ways that connects to real life, showing how it ties into the bigger picture, and help students not just learn the material but also see how it fits into their world and why it might matter to them down the road. I also teach in a style that is playful and "goofy". I believe it's crucial for kids to have fun while learning!
One of the biggest challenges in previous roles has been managing several kids at once, which limited my ability to give each student the individual attention they deserve. Tutoring allows me to provide that direct, focused care, and I’m excited to make a meaningful difference in your child’s education and growth!" less...
